Clare’s lively approach to using mixed media in her painting creates a hugely interesting textural finish to her art work. Her inspiration comes from the natural world and she often introduces plant life in her paintings.
Clare has always been interested in art and all things creative having tried her hand at a number of crafts including painting, sewing, knitting, patchwork, paper-making and sugar craft but has wanted to return to painting. In 2000 an opportunity arose when her twin sister was looking to expand her own photography business and suggested that she could sell Clare's art. Clare enrolled on a couple of one day silk painting courses and was captivated by the way paint moves on silk and, as most silk painters will report, was 'hooked'. In December 2000 she started her own business 'Clare's Creations', selling her original paintings, cards and prints at craft shows and national garden shows such as Harrogate Flower Show, Malvern Flower Show and Tatton Park Flower Show. She held an exhibition in 2003 with a fellow artist which was very successful and in 2007 she had a solo exhibition in Wetherby Town Hall.
Clare describes herself as a mixed media artist. She is a member of Walton Group of Artists, who have an annual exhibition in Walton, where Clare was voted 'best in show' in 2007 and 2013. Primarily her work is inspired by strong colours and nature, using inks and acrylics with texture. In 2014 she helped set up Artists Around Wetherby Open Studios, which is now an annual event.
Her product range now consists of cards, prints, coasters and of course original works.
Clare's Creations was established in 2000 by Clare and is now an Art and Framing Business run by Clare and her husband Tim, who provides a bespoke picture framing service.
